Question:
Dear Andrew, How was the Wolf Kult fan convention?
asked by Topper on Sunday, June 27, 2004

Answer:
Dear Topper, I don't even know where to begin!!! No words can do it justice, but I'll try to give you an idea: FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, SPLENDID, JOYOUS, TERRIFIC, STUPENDOUS, AMAZING, PHENOMENAL, and that was just how I felt when I walked through the door! Yesterday, June 26th, 2004, I myself, as well as many others attended the first ever A.W.K. fan convention. It took place at a club called Doc Watson's, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (which happens to be one of my favorite cities in the world)! This event was organized and executed 100% ENTIRELY by the die hard A.W.K. fans and friends. I had NO part in this other than just to show up and come hang out. I've had the June 26th date marked on my calander for many months, but that was the extent of my involvement. So, I really had no idea what to expect, still I had high hopes that it would be great... "great" doesn't even come close. I was OVERWHELMED by the amount of effort that the organizers put into the day. I was overwhelmed by the wonderful people who showed up. The fans had been talking and planning the "Wolf Kult Con" for years now, and finally the first one actually happened! It BEYOND exceeded my expectations! That's right, it exceeded exceeding! You can find out a lot more about the event at WeWantFun.com... there are photos and words and details. All that matters now is that it happened and that lays the foundation for SO many great times to come! That's what it was all about! We were all there together - to celebrate the good times we've had and to get ready for the good times to come. We know it won't be easy, - it hasn't been easy so far - but it hasn't been hard either - it's been what it's been. The challenges require our strength and they brutalize us, but with challenge comes great reward and satisfaction. This day was that reward. I hope everyone who was involved has this same feeling. I hope you understand how much this means to me! I hope you understand how much this means to the MUSIC! It means so much for all of us! As I said at the convention: 6 years ago, if someone would've told me I would be going to a fan convention for this music, I would not have believed them... at the same time, I would've been excited by the very thought and the possibilties would've pushed me to work even harder at making music that people would feel good about. Even in my deepest moments of doubt, I've always known that this was possible - I just needed to find you guys. This convention was the celebration of us finding each other through the joy of this music, and ultimately, the joy of being alive. It's been an honor doing this with you, and I feel now (more than ever) that we are right at the very beginning of a seemingly endless journey. I know that more tough roads lay ahead (challenges which will dwarf any previous adversity), but I also know that I'm not alone in this quest. That matters more than anything. In fact, we've all set off on this quest together, before we even met eachother. We have always meant to be doing this, and now we realize it as absolute truth. Please, never doubt that. What you have contributed to this is greater than or equal to the very music itself. Don't you see? That's what this music is for! So that we can DO things while we're alive, and do them together. Again, you've already given me experiences I could've only dreamed of, and this just tops it off. I am SO proud to know all of you. It's easy for me to say, but it's true: YOU are the best. You are all such good people. Solid, kind, good, generous, and loving. You set the standard for others and even for myself. I am SO proud that this music has gathered all of you together. We have the best fans, and you know I don't use the word "best" lightly. YOU ARE THE BEST. My eyes are getting watery -I'm tearing up right now... really... O.K. This convention represents something much larger than the day itself. It represents dedication and passion and love. SO MUCH LOVE. That's what this is all about. It's not just about music. It's not just about concerts. It's not just about conventions or anything else... it's about all of things and more, which ultimately add up to one thing: LOVE - It's about being in love with something, and not being afraid to show it. It's about going against all the feelings of fear and uncertainty. It's about believing in yourself and what you know is true. I just can't believe we all decided to be in love with the same thing: LIFE. Your friend, Andrew W.K.
