the line went to the end of the block
got in around 715 (i think)
there was a stack of free 'who knows?' posters (i got the last one)
the place is pretty packed, a sign says maximum occupancy 990 people...
it's got little balcony bits. nice looking place,
reminds me of the prince music center in philly, or at least what i
can remember of that...

lights dim at 744

they asked if he wanted a podium, he said he'd rather sit down. nyu asked him to give the lecture and give it freeform - he came unprepared.

people keep giggling at completely normal sentences.

he took 3 deep breaths in unison w/ the audience

"i thought 'what if i just talked about the IDEA of giving a speech'"

someone gave him a note from a guy in the audience who wanted to talk about sharks. andrew let him.

a fan gave him a gift with one of his handwritten notes on it, inside the package is...
"it seems to be some sort of baked good... perhaps that's just the box..."
"it appears to be a grand piano in a miniature size." (it's also a music box playing beethoven.)

QUESTION ONE
(paraphrased) what's the concept behind close calls with brick walls?
"that album was a reckoning for my own self and a way of dealing with the distance i put between myself and an idea.... trying to eliminate the distance between the expression of an idea and the idea itself." universal japan and the label in south korea wanted to see the album through 'despite the concept' the guy who asked the question played a flute solo

QUESTION TWO
give us an insight on the songwriting process he tries to conjure up the sensations of a physical experience through lyric... but now he thinks they're more of particular value to music and that a song in contrast to pure music does have a value of it's own... i don't think i transcribed this so well..."the songwriting process seems consistent yet ambivalent...i don't want to rest on any definitive nature of songwriting and i think the beauty of it is that it seems to be so free....the overall nature of song is very unlimited and i'd like to retain that quality when i approach songwriting..."

QUESTION THREE
tell us the most fucked up story you can tell me
"we had a bus driver who i'll just say his first initial is b... and we had been on tour for two years.. in 2002... summer 2002... on ozzfest and warped tour, we had found ourselves with a particluar bus driver and he had replaced the previous driver.. we were noticing that we were getting to the venue very late... almost thalf an hour... then an hour to two hours... by the end of the week we were 5 hours late... the bus driver it turned out had an addiction to amphetamines and crack cocaine and various related drugs... the good side of that is that he was able to drive all night... but he wouldn't sleep once we got there... eventually there came a time when his behaviour caused us to part ways. the new driver was good... but about 2 weeks in, we got a call saying 'have you heard anything from your previous driver?' we said no... 'well we haven't heard from him in two weeks...'" and the bus that the was driving was missing... they found the bus gutted of all its electronic equipment... the driver had sold them to pay for various chemicals and he wound up in prison... "i felt thankful that that end result had happened after we made the decision to part ways."

QUESTION FOUR:
... he gives him a list of quetions.
primarily asked about the rexplex show. yikes.
the paper involves various things and thematics scenarios in the dvd...
he dodges the rexplex question and answers... 'why does the camera zoom in to the o in 'who knows' on the dvd'

"the idea of 0 or o is something i was thinking about today... how many people here would say that they've had coincidences in the last month that have been beyond pure coincidence..."

"what i've really been excited about is that the idea that the nature of our joy, the joy of our interests...etc... the nature of the physical energy that moves us... how often are those impulses detached or related to other impulses? how much is coincidence and how much is reality willing to take shape under your own influence."

he discussed how 'our sixth sense is how and where our greatest accomplshments are found, despite how silly or unsure we feel... (i didn't quite type this write, it came out garbled so i don't quite know how this sentence ended...)

he says he wants this lecture to be as unfocused as possible.

FIVE
how often do you party
he says until 21 he hadn't done any non prescription pharmeceutical chemicals... now he'e experimented with alcohol, marijuana, salvia, mushrooms, cocaine... he has some DMT but hasn't taken it

before those substances he had the idea of partying being based on what you could do without using those substances allow people to do what they want as much as they allow you each person's idea of 'party' is different to themselves appreciate diversity in how people observe happiness

SIX AND SEVEN
what is your favouriute kind of sandwich and what are your thoughts on voting
boars head pepper tureky sandwich
started strict with swiss and B.H. turkey on sub for 4 or 5 years but then he switched to ham and swiss on wheat and no mayo (obviously) sometimes when they put mayo on by accident he'll go with it "if the sandwich appeared to be put together other than in a way i decided for it to be i would accept it."

"binary political systems are meant to distract us from a non binary point of view" he's made an effort to stay in the infinite gray area or rainbow in between.

next was sort of a pretend phone conversation "what's up?"..."i'm doing a lecture"..."that's it, thanks"

EIGHT
what is it that fuels you?
the idea between shallowness and thought is where they hit his desire to exist in one or the other is not as satisfying as existing in between.

NINE
he discussed the idea of the new 'band oriented' show going in line with the 'gray area' he discussed andrew agress... "the orlando show was the furthest he had taken a show to include everyone present." inasmuch as the dude asking the question is 'giving a lecture' like andrew is.

TEN
when was the last time you cried
"when i broke my foot - 2 years ago..." he was thinking about it today cos his friend broke his hand he also cried when he found out his girlfriend cheated on him... that was the most recent time actually

ELEVEN
why is jimmy coup not in the band anymore sweeney actually told awk about jimmy - jimmy blew awk's mind, changed his perspective, played an integral part in his first efforts...he led a lot of the proces andrew couldn't lead himself and gave a great deal of passion

he thinks about him all the time and he couldn't forget it it seemed two years ago his will wasn't there any longer and that they were both aware of it and to ignore it would be ignorant so they parted ways and andrew will never forget or underappreciate his contributions to the music or to andrew himself and he wishes him nothing but the best

TWELVE
what's your favourite movie
"i don't pick favourites"
what's the best movie you've seen lately
"i saw borat the other day"

THIRTEEN
what happened with island and when can we see the next 3 albums in the states
he parted ways with island after the original group had parted ways with island and moved to warner bros. they could move to a new label or move to a new label by default ...
the contract was up so he wanted to explore other options and he could do so without obligations or responsibilites. he now owns the rights to all his music.

young lord and the carrier will be released over the next two years (no further timetable set) ccwbw will be released in the USA within the next year with additional material
